SIGMUND FREUD
A man should not strive to eliminate his complexes but to get
into accord with them: they are legitimately what directs his
conduct in the world. -Sigmund Freud
The father of psychoanalysis was interested in looking at the
origins of human behavior through the prism of sexual drives.
His process of using what he called “the talking cure”
helped people to admit the truth about themselves and heal psychological
wounds. This type of introspective analysis became a preoccupation
of people in the 20th Century and in and of itself is one of Freud’s
most influential contributions. And though sex was a central feature
of many of his theories, when it came to his own sexuality, Freud
felt he was exempt from the drives that ruled the lives of ordinary
people.
His body of work remains both influential and controversial a
century later, which is great testimony to his perceptiveness
and conclusions regarding the nature of human behavior.
The Krone Sigmund Freud is an absolutely stunning and unique
writing instrument.
The abalone cap is exposed through a sterling silver overlay,
which reflects the dendrite tree of a neuron. The clip has a unique
shape and inlay comprised of sterling silver and bronze. At the
top of the cap is a coin with an image of the union of man and
woman.
The finely detailed hand-painted montage on the abalone barrel,
reflect many of the aspects of Freud’s The Interpretation
of Dreams. The young girl with her arms resting on the moon is
symbolic of dreams, while the ghosted white girl and horse represent
flying. The image of the baby in the foreground is a metaphor
for a human’s sexual awakening. The girl scratching her
head represents the many theories and concepts introduced in The
Interpretation of Dreams. From an actual statue in Greece, stands
the man with wings, better known as Eros, the God of Love. A nude
woman posed as the Statue of Liberty is a figurative representation
of the sexual undertones affecting society throughout the ages.
A train coming out of the tunnel depicts Freud’s classic
sexuality dream sequence. Freud’s silhouette stands alongside
an image of the brain signifying the duality of the mental and
physical condition of man.
Freud’s signature is engraved into the sterling silver
blind cap.
