Montegrappa dedicates this precious Limited Edition to
the epic exodus that took place from 1849 onwards in California.
Hundreds and then thousands of American colonists, the "forty-niner",
set out on the journey to the West. This migration was the Gold
Rush, which continued for at least six years. From East to West,
following the course of the sun across the country, this journey
became the American destiny.
The story of this journey from prairies to the ocean is
traced in the designs on the barrel and cap of the pen:
The Barrel
Is decorated with a reproduction of the first pioneers who
crossed the continent with typical wagons and the first gold
seekers who, with simple tools, looked for gold in the river's
water.
The Cap
Is portrayed with the evolution: mines, native Americans,
the transcontinental railway (which was terminated in 1868).
The background, with the ocean and the ships, represents both
the point of arrival of this journey from East to West and the
economic and commercial development derived from the Gold Rush.
