The production of the OMAS 360 in pure titanium is a challenge to forms and materials. The operations begin with the mechanical cutting of the bar. The blue screen of a CADCAM shows the successive phase. It's a carried out by means of a sophisticated tooling machine of highly advanced technology, on which the raw piece is placed. The triangular external modeling is obtained by movement of the tooling at high speed, which removes slight particles of titanium over a period of several hours.
On the same machine next to be made are the sites for the rings. Once the excess material is cut away, there follows the piercing for the whittling-down, which is carried out with a cobalt tip.
A particular very slow-indeed eighty hours long operation - of electron discharge machining completes the operation.
Submerged in its special bath, with the help of a triangular electrode, brought into please with respect for the external geometry, the piece is subjected to small electric jolts, which erode the material until the interior is perfectly triangular.
The successive phases are all carried out by hand. The sanding finishes off the surface. The mounting of the rings is particularly long and the nib completes the construction of the pen. The time involved, then, is very long.
Production is limited to three pieces a day and the result is exceptional. Every model comes with the certificate that shows its date of production. The T2 360 is also presented in T2 360 D version, characterized by the splendid little ring composed of tiny diamond triangles.
