The World's most wanted pen.

The parker "51" was launched in 1941 and is rightly recognized as a design landmark. Considered by many to be the forerunner of the modern pen, it sold over 20 million units in over 30 years. In 1950, it received the Fashion Academy Award for exceptional styling, precision and craftsmanship.

The original parker "51"

The original Parker "51" shared the silhouette of the famed P51 Mustang jet fighter (without the wings) and the material used (alkali resistant Lucite) was the same as that used in the nose cones of some wartime planes. Its style and construction was to different from conventional pens that Parker promoted it as being "like a pen from a different planet." In its time it was the best-engineered fountain pen ever made and was the first to have a nib under a hood to avoid the ink drying on the way from its reservoir to the paper. Early Parker "51" pens carried a Vacumatic filling system with a plastic plunger hidden behind a blind cap. This was later replaced by the Aero-Metric filling system in which a sac was located inside a metal tube on which a metal pressure bar was mounted. The name "51" was chosen to commemorate the company's 51st anniversary (1888-1939). It was a name that was easy to pronounce in any language and one that wouldn't detract attention from the company's main trademark - Parker. With its slim design and hooded nib, the Parker "51" proved so popular that demand very soon exceeded production. In fact, it became such a success that at one point Parker even took out advertising apologizing for the shortage.

The parker "51" Special Edition

Sixty years on, your new Parker "51" Special Edition takes an original pen steeped in history and combines it with the cutting edge technology of the 21st Century. It is your opportunity to own a piece of history re-visited - proving that the best things in life do not go out of fashion. The Empire State design, also known as "Icicle", first featured on the cap of the Parker "51" in 1942. The cap on the Black pen is in two-tone "vermeil" (gold plating on silver) whilst the Vista Blue pen carries an all silver cap. Both pens feature 23K gold plated trim and pearl gray cap an barrel "jewels". The famous Parker arrow clip also features the original blue diamond insignia, representing the Parker lifetime guarantee. In keeping with sophisticated, modern technology, the 18K gold nib is fed by a precision engineered, twin-channeled, ink feed and collector system. The original filling systems have been replaced by a twist-action, refillable ink cartridge. As a final tribute to its famous predecessor, your Parker "51" Special Edition fountain pen is supplied in a gift box manufactured in a style and in materials very similar to the original Parker "51" gift box.
