Han Wu-Ti

His reign lasted from 141 to 87 BC - an impressive 54 years! And during this period Wu Ti, the fifth emperor of the Han Dynasty, formed China like few other rules before or after him. He defeated the nomadic Hsiungnu, who were his empire;s worst enemies, and doubled the size of his realm with many wars of conquest, campaigning in all directions. These activities by the eldest son of Emperor Ching Ti, born as Liu Ch'e in the year 157 BC. earned him the honorary title of Wu - "The Warlike."

The reign of Han Wu Ti was one of the golden eras of Chinese history. His conquests brought rich booty, while the growth in trading with westlying countries via the "silk road" brought his empire luxury goods and wealth. In fact, in its best years under Han Wu Ti China enjoyed a level of affluence and prosperity that has remained unmatched up to the present day.

With "Han Wu Ti" Montblanc has chosen to commemorate the great emperor who, more than almost any other, exerted a formative influence on the Central Empire. And so it is that the magnificent fountain pen and the precious wristwatch reflect an element of that golden period of Chinese history.

This exquisite fountain pen is made of solid gold (750), the barrel and the cap being coated with costly black enamel. The 18-carat gold nib is artfully adorned with the engraving of a five-clawed dragon - a Chinese symbol of fortune, strength and longevity. A gold emblem on the cap, embossed by the hands of a master craftsman, shows a portrait of the emperor. The name Han Wu Ti has been eternalized on the barrel by artistic inlay work employing quality mother-of-pearl.

This automatic wristwatch is a unique masterpiece of traditional Swiss watchmaker artistry, with numerals of solid gold (750) and eight diamonds set in gold, all inlaid in precious mother-of-pearl. The case is a precision product made of solid gold (750), its black strap of finest crocodile leather finished by a skilled bag-maker. At the center of the dial a resplendent gold emblem embossed by a master's hand shows a portrait of Han Wu Ti. A timepiece of ageless beauty, its uniqueness documented by the hand-engraved edition number on the back.
