The Marquise de Pompadour - the charming mistress of King Louis XIV - was not only one of the most charismatic figures at the court of Versailles, but also a passionate and committed are lover. The "rococo muse" supported, among others, promising writers such as Voltaire and musicians such as the young Mozart. She also played a crucial role in founding the French porcelain factory in Sevres, and gave creative building projects in Paris, such as the Place de la Concorde.
The Patron of Art Edition Marquise de Pompadour honors a captivating personality and an outstanding historical figure. The splendid gold-plated barrel and mountings of Edition 4810 represent the luxury of court life at Versailles. The cap, made of fine Meissen porcelan and decorated with a hand-painted, sepia-colored rose finished in gold, recalls the Marquise's love of porcelain. As a tribute to the age in which she lived, the 18-carat gold nib is decorated by a delicate engraving typical of the rococo style. Edition 888 pays a special tribute to the Marquise de Pompadour both the cap of this fine pen - which is lovingly decorated with a hand-painted motif of the Marquise - and the barrel, which is also hand-painted with a delicate pattern of flowers, are made of Meissen porcelain. All mountings in this Limited Edition are of 750 solid gold.
The Marquise de Pompadour, Louis XV's mistress, was a committed patron of the arts who supported Voltaire and Mozart and had a passion for architecture and Meissen porcelain. In its Patron of Art Limited Edition, Montblanc has created an exceptional writing instrument in her honour.
The cap is made from the famous white Meissen porcelain, adorned by a sepia-coloured rose - the Marquise's favourite flower - and the traditional Meissen crossed blue swords. The instrument also boasts a gold-plated barrel, matching trim and a gold nib.
