Sailor 'Double Dragon'
The new "King of Pens" is the very latest pen in
Sailor's long history in making high quality fountain pens,
and it is most suitable material for depecting a special Dragon
soaring in the sky in the traditional Japanese art of Maki-e.
In this case the decoration is in Kaga Maki-e. The Dragon is
one of the Japanese spiritual c
reatures
called the "Four Guardians". The other three being
the Tortoise, the Unicorn(Kirin) and the Phoenix.The dragon
is worshiped as the Guardian of Water who controls clouds and
rain. It freely moves in the sky, water and land. A dragon flying
into the sky is called the "Ascending Dragon" which
is also known as a symbol for good luck. It's companion. the
Dragon flying back to the land from the sky is caled the "Descending
Dragon", An "Ascending Dragon: is "The Black
Dragon" and is less than 100 years old, and a Descending
Dragon(also known as the "Blue Dragon" living in the
sky) is 300 years old.
For this very special pen, we have fitted the unique Nagahara
"King Eagle" nib, This nib, hand crafted by Sailor's
nib master Nobuyoshi Nagahara. provides broad and strong strokes,
as if to trace the Dragon's soaring route into the sky.
Only meticulous handwork by Japanese traditional craftsmanship
can produce this unique writing instrument.
The Sailor "Double Dragon" Limited Edition is therefore
a unity of traditional handcrafted of Maki-e by Mr. Ohsita,
the legendary nib skills of Mr. Nobuyoshi Nagahara on the nibs
and Sailor's 95 year history of quailty fountain pen making.
One can almost hear the Dragon's tail swish when writing with
this pen.
All this in a dualism inspired by the highly refined tradition
of Japanese art and the whirling energy of the world of today.
