The “Thunder God meets Dragon” Limited Edition is a special fountain pen from Sailor, symbolizing the mythical Japanese “Thunder God meets Dragon” in the traditional Japanese art of K aga Taka Maki-e.
‘Raijin’ or ‘Vajrapani’ the Thunder God (wielder of the Thunderbolt) has been worshiped by the faithful as a nature god(protecting agasint evil) since before the introduction of Buddhism into Japan. The ferocious Thunder God has a demons head with horns and claw like feet and hands. He is encircled by drums and he has a hammer to beat them.
In this limited edition fountain pen, the Thunder God is paired with the Dragon. The Dragon has been chosen as this popular spiritual creature is known to control clouds and rain as a Guardian of Water, and also is a symbol for good luck.
This pen captures these two ferocious and spiritual creatures roaming the skies against each other and controlling the elements. These mythical creatures and folklore cultures are well depicted in many famous traditional paintings and sculptures in Japan.
The pen is specially hand turned from traditional Ebonite material.
One very special feature of this pen is the pen nib. We have chosen the Nagahara ‘King Eagle’ nib to be fitted to this majestic fountain pen. This special nib crafted by the master Nagahara (Sailor’s nib guru) is an amazing triple layered nib with very special ‘double cross’ point. It has writing qualities to match the fountain Pen itself.
