Stipula presents a new fountain pen named for Giovanni da Verrazzano, the Florentine navigator and explorer who lived between the 15th and 16th centuries and who, backed by the French king Francis I, made a series of voyages to the Americas.
The fame of the Florentine navigator is linked above all to his discovery of the site of present-day New York Harbor at the mouth of the Hudson River: on April 17, 1524, as he sailed northward up the eastern coast of North America on board the caravel La Dauphine, he sighted "a lovely place set between two low hills [Brooklyn and Staten Island]... between which a broad watercourse [the Hudson River] runs to the sea." Giovanni da Verrazzano is thus remembered as the discoverer of New York's bay: to him, the City of New York has dedicated a bronze statue in Battery Park at the extreme southern tip of the island of Manhattan-but more importantly, the magnificent Verrazzano Narrows Bridge, the span of steel that straddles the "riviera" mentioned by the explorer to link the boroughs of Brooklyn and Staten Island.

Stipula has decided to honor the memory of this navigator, whose northern voyage marked the befinning of a centuries-old affiliation between Florence and New York, with a fountain pen in ultramarine blue celluloid that reflects the color of the ocean plied by Giovanni da Verrazzano's caravel. The metal details, like the clip with its steel spring, are all in bright finish: the cap top is set with a glowing crystal, symbol of the Polar Star, one of the most ancient instruments for sailing.
The fountain pen is equipped with a special "pin" filling system featuring a piston mechanism that retracts into the barrel and a two-tone 18K gold nib with rhodium tip. Available nib sizes: Extrafine (EF), FIne (F), Medium (M), Broad (B), Oblique Broad (OB), Oblique Very Broad (OVB), 0.9 Italic, 1.1 Italic, 1.3 Italic, and Special 52 degrees.
The "Giovanni da Verrazzano" fountain pen is crafted in a limited edition of 1524 pieces, recalling the date of the discovery of New York's bay. Each pen is individually numbered.
