It's the bi-centenary of the birth of Giacomo Leopardi, known throughout the world as one of the greatest Italian poets. For this anniversary, the Giacomo Leopardi Foundation in Recanati has commissioned Visconti to produce a limited edition pen in honor of our great poet. The nature of the festivities and anniversaries in honor of Leopardi take the form of promotions and encouraging programs and initiatives relating to particular areas such as civil and cultural aspects of the towns in which Leopardi lived and wrote, editions of the works of Leopardi with particular reference to their publication in other countries, or restoration of buildings associated with the life and work of Leopardi to ensure that they become conducive to the study and discussion of poetry. The poet who was born in Recanati, the town where the foundation is based, lived in Florence for a number of years before his premature death, where he frequented a literary environment and composed some of his most important works.
A limited edition in diverse types materials and various number of pieces issued, the engraved decoration on the cap and barrel evoke the elaborate style of the 19th century and Leopardi's most famous poem: "The Infinite" is engraved on the barrel.
