The world wide famous architect Ettore Sottsass, one of the
most well-known and celebrated living designers, would like
to dedicate an exceptional creation to one of the oldest Italian
editor. For this reason he has shaped a pen with unique esthetical
features, which make it a writing instrument, a collection item
and a work of art at the same time!
The famous designer of the Italian brand Olivetti, who invented
the distinctive aesthetical features of its production, has
now created a new tribute to writing, innovation and inventiveness

Inventiveness, creativity, functionality ... all in just one
object!
This pen was conceived as an innovative idea when in 2002 the
Italian Editor Vallecchi asked Sottsass to create an original
pen, carrying the distinctive patterns of the “Vallecchi
style”, which identifies itself with the essence of the
Italian XX century.
But this shining “Star” waited to show finally its
glowing power.
After the concept of the star-shaped section and the essential,
clear design – a trademark for Sottsass’ style -
was set, a deeper study of the technical features of this pen
took place, considering the materials, the item in itself and
also its final use. In fact this “Star” is first
of all a writing instrument, i.e. an object with the best technical
features in order to be used.
Indeed the “Star” is also a splendid sculpture:
it stays erected on its steel and wood basement and it is contained
by a transparent cylinder. If set on your desk, this pen is
in itself a marvellous monument to writing - to culture!
It’s a unique work of art in addition to the other ones
of Ettore Sottsass’, which are already in the most famous
museums of the world.
The cure of the details and the absolute guarantee
The components of the pen are formed from a single massive silver
bar, entirely lathe-shaped. This kind of work requires a long
and careful manual practice; in fact the single pieces are formed
here one by one. Every element is manually smoothed and rhodium
plated. The nib is in an 18 kt. two colours gold. Every piece
has got a serial number and the author’s signature on
its base. The pen guarantee lasts for the entire life of its
original owner.
